Dr. Sung is sub-specialty board certified in Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery, specializing in the treatment of and research in female pelvic floor disorders. She has held numerous leadership positions and has been grant supported since 2006 to conduct high quality research in female pelvic floor disorders. Her work has been recognized by the Wall Street Journal and the Providence Business News. Dr. Sung's work has focused on patient-reported outcomes and patient-centered research, improving diversity and inclusion in pelvic floor disorders research, and developing guidelines for practicing clinicians. She has published innovative research and is actively involved in supporting other researchers and providers. Dr. Sung is clinically active and provides both non-surgical and surgical treatments for women with pelvic floor disorders.
Dr. Sung serves as the Vice Chair of Faculty Development and Wellness for the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. She is a career and life coach. Her work in this role focuses on work-life integration for physicians, with a focus on empowering physicians to develop the skills and mindset needed to bend the culture of medicine. She has spoken nationally on topics including bending the culture of medicine, leadership development, career flexibility and pivoting, and developing your own personal board of directors. She is mom to 2 children and has had several personal pivots in her career, driving her passion for searching for better approaches to encourage change in health care systems to be more sustainable for physicians .
Dr. Sung's work has focused on evaluating the most effective treatments, and incorporating the patient's voice and perspective in research evaluating what the best treatments are for pelvic floor disorders.
She has published many scientific reports and is known for her expertise in patient-centered research, conducting qualitative and quantitative assessments to improve how researchers measure what is most important to patients, and conducting clinical trials. Her work has been published in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) - a high impact factor journal. She has been a subject matter expert in women's health and pelvic floor disorders for both national and international organizations.
As a recognized expert, Dr. Sung has been invited to give keynotes and workshops by both national and international societies.
